Temporary Exhibit/Legacy Tree Gallery:
This Fall, CMEE opened an enhanced indoor active play space exhibit Fun to be Fit! Building Healthy Bodies & Minds in its Legacy Tree Gallery.
Designed to promote wellness and physical fitness, “Fun to be Fit” offers families a fun destination to be physically active during the Fall and Winter months. Museum staff consulted with occupational therapists to implement exhibit features that nurture cognitive and physical development. Research shows that many schools across the country have cut back on recess and physical education and there is a direct link between physical play and health and social trends.
CMEE’s commitment to the benefits of active play was mirrored in a recent New York Times article (9/2/09) that attests to the importance of active play. ”Physical activity is known to lessen the symptoms of mild attention deficit disorder, and is associated with much lower incidences of childhood obesity. Active kids are also more facile intellectually and perform better academically in the long term.”
CMEE’s “Fun to be Fit” Exhibit features swings, a ball pit, balancing/climbing pieces, a figure eight ‘track’ among other activities that engage the sensory system and help children achieve developmental milestones – while having fun!
